⚙️ AI Avatars: Reality Blurred

Good morning. As Mark Zuckerberg dismisses Elon Musk's cage fight avoidance with a casual 'It’s time to move on,' it appears the tech titans are leaving their physical altercations behind. Perhaps they could make Avatars with HeyGen’s new AI deep fake models and have them fight each other instead.

HeyGen: Going Beyond the Uncanny Valley

Midjourney

By now we’ve all seen the various talking head AI avatars. They’ve been fairly realistic, but they've often had a distinct robotic and uncanny valley feel. HeyGen, an AI company that raised $9M, is changing that. They've created a product enabling anyone to “scale their video production with customizable AI avatars”. What they've developed is truly remarkable. Check out the video below. Which side do you think is real and which is AI-generated?

If you answered the video on the left, you’d be wrong. The video on the right? Also wrong. Surprise - both videos are AI-generated. If you’re skeptical, sign up for HeyGen’s beta waitlist yourself. Within ten minutes, you'll receive a personalized AI video from Joshua Xu, founder of Heygen, in your inbox, expressing his gratitude. Perhaps the most impressive part of their new model is that it only requires 2 minutes of video content to train an AI avatar replica of the inputted model.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg for HeyGen...

They're also diving into AI translation, aiding creators and businesses in translating their videos into various languages. Take a look 👇

Notice how their mouth movements and facial expressions make it seem like they’re speaking their native tongue? It's genuinely awe-inspiring.

While these AI models are near-perfect, keen observers might notice a few minute irregularities in Joshua's videos. But these are so subtle that only a discerning viewer might spot them. This technology presents vast opportunities for entities like faceless YouTube channels, media companies without video crews, virtual event hosts, and AI-centric advertisement agencies - just to name a few.

In the near future, discerning real from AI-generated videos might become challenging. We know that images are already fooling nearly 50% of you due to polling from AI or Not (BTW, you should definitely give today’s poll a try - our team found it rather difficult to discern which is which).

That Terminator-esque future is not here yet, but just imagine the implications of such advanced technology in the wrong hands…

Microsoft's Copilot AI Extends Helping Hand to Field Workers

Midjourney

Guess what's on the horizon for frontline workers? You guessed it… AI. Up until recently, there was a collective belief that manual labor jobs would not be as affected by AI as desk jobs. Well, Microsoft is making waves and challenging that assumption. Initially unveiled in March, Copilot seemed destined solely for the world of Microsoft 365’s enterprise platforms, the sanctuary of desk-bound professionals. But times are changing, and Copilot is expanding its horizons by making a grand entry into Dynamics 365, a product suite built for field workers ranging from cable technicians to electric repair personnel, even touching the realms of facilities, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors.

What’s this Copilot magic all about? Imagine starting your day, and at a single glance, your upcoming work orders greet you. That's right; with Copilot, technicians see their work orders directly in their Microsoft Teams' home experience. Now, if they’re knee-deep in a task and face a hiccup, there’s no cause for alarm. Real-time collaboration with experts is just a tap away through Remote Assist. Gone are the days of fragmented tools and endless searches. Customer escalations now come pre-packaged into draft work orders, ready for frontline managers to review right within Outlook.

Front-line workers start their day, and with Copilot, at a single glance, their upcoming work orders greet them.

Here’s a video created by Microsoft to show how it all works 👇

Come this fall, Copilot will include a recommendation system that can accurately assign technicians based on their availability, travel time from a location, skill set, and more. And as they move through their day, technicians can update their status, from their arrival at a location to resolving issues. Supervisors can review work orders before dispatching field workers, adding a new layer of oversight to Dynamics 365. But that’s where things get a little bit sketchy…

With such granular oversight capabilities, where do we draw the line between efficiency and intrusion? Could this be opening the door to invasive surveillance? Does the quest for unmatched service come at the cost of a worker's privacy? Only time will tell, and if the courtroom gets involved, we’ll surely be all ears.

🤕 From Chaos to Clarity: Jeli's AI-Powered Incident Understanding Unveiled

Jeli, an incident management company, has introduced a beta feature using generative AI, akin to ChatGPT. This tool streamlines incident understanding and tracking by offering a "Catch Me Up" summary of ongoing conversations. It also generates markers to highlight key incident aspects. Jeli integrates OpenAI's API and emphasizes the importance of human oversight for accuracy. While direct incident querying isn't possible yet, user feedback during the beta phase will guide further enhancements. Interested? Jeli clients can join the waitlist here to explore this innovative feature.

🚀 Zoom Clarifies: Your Videoconferencing Secrets Stay Safe

Zoom has updated its terms of service (TOS) to underscore that customer video content isn't used to train AI models, either for Zoom or third-party entities. Amid concerns about its control and rights over user data, Zoom has further distinguished between "customer content" and "service-generated data" in its TOS. This updated policy is Zoom's effort to assert its stance more clearly, following an earlier revision to address customer apprehensions.

🫂 OpenAI Empowers All Users with Custom ChatGPT Instructions

OpenAI is making custom instructions for ChatGPT available to all users, including those on the free tier. This enhancement allows users to fine-tune their interactions with the chatbot, dictating response lengths, tones, and more. What's even more beneficial is that these custom instructions can be employed even if chat history is disabled, granting users greater adaptability.

🧠 Brain-Inspired Efficiency: IBM's Analog AI Chip Mimics Neural Communication

IBM Research has introduced an analog AI chip that utilizes resistive memory devices, emulating neural network communication seen in biological brains. This chip optimizes deep neural network (DNN) inference tasks by minimizing the data transfer between memory and processing units, leading to swifter processing. With 64 analog compute cores and integrated converters, the chip achieves high accuracy and energy-efficiency. Such innovations promise to enhance AI capabilities in applications like voice assistants and smart devices and could pave the way for better automation and reduced ecological impacts across industries.
