Google's “Duet” AI Joins the Productivity Suite: A Game-Changer or a Pricey Experiment?
Google has launched Duet AI, an AI assistant for Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Drive, Slides, and Docs. As a competitor to Microsoft’s Copilot, the purpose of Duet is to be both a collaborator and a productivity tool, capable of tasks such as turning an outline from Docs into a Slides presentation, writing emails, and generating charts. It also comes with some app-specific features: In Google Meet it offers interesting AI-based lighting and sound adjustments, as well as meeting summary notes.
So how much will Duet cost you? While the pricing for smaller teams has not yet been finalized, Google is charging $30 per user for large organizations. Coincidentally, this is the same price Microsoft charges for Copilot. Both are a hefty price to pay for what is still new and unfinished technology. The underlying AI models are not foolproof, particularly when handling business-critical data, and users are strongly advised to double-check any work completed by the AI to avoid costly mistakes.
Google's Duet AI is a further step into the future of work, offering good competition to Microsoft and a range of features that could significantly alter how we interact with productivity apps. It makes you wonder… what will the workplace look like in five years from now?

Dream a Little Dream: Snapchat Ventures Deeper Into AI with New Feature
Snapchat is diving deeper into the world of AI with the introduction of its latest feature called Dreams. The feature is located in the Memories section of the app and allows users to upload selfies of themselves to generate an eight-photo pack with themes like doppelgangers, time travel, or back-to-school. Dreams is initially available in Australia and New Zealand, with a global release planned in the coming weeks.
Each user’s first Dream pack is free, with each consecutive pack costing $1. Snapchat plans to expand the feature by allowing users to add friends to their Dreams, though it's worth noting that the terms of service prohibit using someone else's selfies to create individual Dreams.
This isn’t Snapchat’s first rodeo with AI, having released its own chatbot, My AI, in February 2023. The response from Snapchat users to My AI was mixed. While My AI is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Dreams is built on open-source technology and developed by Snap's in-house team. Early testing of the Dreams feature has revealed that the output is, to put it mildly, subpar, with feedback stating that generated selfies rarely capture the user's likeness accurately.
Dreams’ terms of service reveal that "Sponsored Dreams" are on the horizon, hinting at potential collaborations with companies like Disney or Pepsi. This then begs the question, is that the entire purpose behind their new Dreams feature? To collect huge sponsorship checks from global companies? Either way - due to Snapchat's huge user base of 397 million people, Dreams is likely to offer millions of users their first taste of generative AI, further solidifying its position as an innovative player in both the social media and AI landscape.

ControlRooms, an AI startup founded by Monte Zweben has announced that it has pocketed a further $10 million in a Series A round led by Origin Ventures, bringing its total to $13.75 million. The company aims to reduce the $50 billion annual bill that manufacturers pay, caused by unexpected downtime and complex troubleshooting, by building applications that automate the initial troubleshooting process. 💭 Quora's Poe Unveils New Features: Eyeing The Corporate Market
Quora’s AI chatbot, Poe, has announced new features such as the ability to search for custom chatbots like Claude or Llama2, and a new enterprise tier for its premium plans. The company didn’t provide any further details about the enterprise tier, but excited users can now sign up for the waitlist. Poe, which is built on the technology of OpenAI GPT and Claude-version 1.2. was first launched in March 2023 with the purpose of assisting users in finding answers to their questions.
🏢 OpenAI Doubles Down on Business with ChatGPT Enterprise
In a strategic pivot towards the enterprise market, OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Enterprise—a robust, high-performance counterpart to its consumer-facing chatbot. Aimed at competing with Microsoft's Bing Chat Enterprise, this new offering comes with enterprise-grade privacy and data analysis features. What sets it apart is its Advanced Data Analysis capability, which can sift through complex data to generate insights. Powered by the faster GPT-4 model, it offers double the performance and features an expanded context window for more coherent conversations. Despite its consumer version facing a recent dip in web traffic, OpenAI is betting big on the enterprise edition to boost its revenue, which stood at a modest $30 million last year. The company plans to roll out more robust features and offerings for smaller business teams in the near future.
