⚙️ChatGPT Gets Personal
Good morning. Just as Oppenheimer's atomic bomb was a game-changer, so too are the AI developments we're seeing from giants OpenAI and Apple - though hopefully with less explosive results! As we delve into these groundbreaking advancements, we're reminded of the power of innovation and the potential it holds for our future. So buckle up and enjoy the ride, because unlike a NYC subway trip, this journey through the world of AI is guaranteed to be fare evasion-free

OpenAI's ChatGPT Gets Personal with New Custom Instructions
Midjourney
OpenAI's ChatGPT just got a major upgrade that's all about you. Say hello to "custom instructions," a new feature currently in beta for ChatGPT Plus users (which if you didn’t know, costs $20/month). This isn't just a minor tweak; it's a leap toward personalized AI experiences. It’s designed to save you time and make your interactions with ChatGPT more, well, you.
Here's how it works:
1) You tell ChatGPT what you want it to know about you and how you want it to respond.
2)You set your preferences once, and ChatGPT adjusts its responses to suit your needs. Whether you're a third-grade science teacher looking for kid-friendly explanations of photosynthesis or a developer who's all about Python, ChatGPT's got you covered.
3) No more repeating yourself over and over again. Efficiency, meet user experience.
Why does this matter? Personalization is the name of the game in what AI will become. The more personalized the experience, the more likely users are to engage with a given technology. By understanding and adapting to your specific needs, ChatGPT can provide more relevant and efficient assistance reducing the need for the all-too-common copy-paste when creating prompts.
As AI tools become more tailored to individual needs, we can expect to see them popping up in all aspects of our daily lives from highly personalized fitness regimens to automatically generated emails that sound just like you.

Apple's AI Ambitions: A Game-Changer in the Tech World
Midjourney
Apple is making waves (again), but this time it's not about a new iPhone or MacBook… The Cupertino-based company is diving headfirst into the world of AI, as it announced that it’s cooking up its own LLM. Think OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Bard, but with a bite of Apple - which comes with the incredible user experience and functionality we’ve come to love. The foundation for these models is an internal infrastructure codenamed "Ajax”, tentatively dubbed "Apple GPT".
Apple's goal is to harness the power of AI to supercharge its products and services, keeping it at the forefront of the ever-evolving tech landscape. CEO Tim Cook is all in on AI, envisioning its impact across Apple's product range. Imagine Siri, Apple's voice assistant, but turbocharged with generative AI. In its current state, Siri is lackluster, to say the least, but if Apple delivers a product that’s remotely similar in quality to the brand’s standard, we’re in for a new level of personalized assistant.
The current AI landscape is a playground dominated by OpenAI, Google, and Meta. But Apple's knack for seamlessly integrating software with hardware means that Apple could get a leg up over its competitors. And with over 2 billion active Apple devices in the world, they have a distribution channel for their new AI that nobody can compete with.
🚇 AI Eyes on NYC Subway: Tracking Fare Evasion in Real-Time
AI surveillance software to detect fare evasion has been introduced to New York City's subway system, now operational in seven stations. Despite the $690 million lost to fare evasion in 2022, the Metropolitan Transit Authority uses the system as a counting tool, not for police notification, amidst privacy concerns. (link)
🚗 Tesla's $1B AI Supercomputer: Musk's Answer to Nvidia Chip Shortage
Elon Musk, plans to invest $1 billion to build AI supercomputer, Dojo, due to a lack of Nvidia's A100 tensor core GPUs, crucial for Tesla's Full Self-Driving software and Optimus humanoid robots. Musk claims that Tesla wouldn’t need Dojo if Nvidia was able to meet the industry's current demand for AI chips. (link)
💰 Mayfield's $250M AI Start Fund: Seeding the Future of AI Startups
Mayfield Fund has initiated a $250 million 'AI Start' fund for early-stage AI startups, aiming to leverage the generative AI boom. Sourced from Mayfield's $1.3 billion in existing funds, this vehicle will support firms outside their primary fund's scope and may involve stakes below 10% to accommodate more angel investors and firms. 💽 Cerebras and UAE's G42: A $900M Deal for Nine AI Supercomputers
Cerebras Systems will install nine AI supercomputers in the US for UAE's G42, with the first one already at Colovore's Santa Clara data center. The plan comprises 576 CS-2 systems containing the world's largest chip, the Wafer Scale Engine 2, aiming for 36 exaflops of performance. The initial phase of the Condor Galaxy 1 system, featuring 27 million AI compute cores and two exaflops of performance, is online, set to double in size soon. (link)
