Turbocharging Remote Work: Zoom Introduces Updated AI Companion
Zoom has rebranded ZoomIQ, a generative AI assistant, into AI Companion, designed to draft chat responses, summarize meeting discussions in real-time, and even assist with your emails. Do you have a pile of unread chat messages? The AI will soon provide quick summaries and enable you to divide meeting recordings into smart chapters for easy review, highlighting important information and suggesting next steps. Later this fall, the feature set will expand to include automatic meeting scheduling and digital whiteboard brainstorming.
But what about data privacy? After recently coming under flack for their TOS, Zoom reassures that this AI addition is rooted in responsible practices, promising that your audio, video, and chat content will not be used to train their AI models. Administrators can also customize which AI features are activated, giving organizations flexibility and control.
Zoom plans to unveil even more features for its AI Companion at Zoomtopia at the beginning of October. If you're on a paid Zoom plan, you can activate these new capabilities right now and look forward to a slew of updates this fall.

Revolutionizing Digital Design: ChatGPT's New Canva Plugin
OpenAI has integrated Canva through ChatGPT’s plugin platform to simplify the creation of digital visuals such as logos and banners. Users can access this feature by simply installing the Canva plugin on ChatGPT’s interface. Once installed, users describe the visual they wish to create in the prompt box, generating a list of visual options that can be edited in Canva and downloaded.
The Canva plugin is accessible only to those on the ChatGPT Plus subscription plan. For a monthly fee of $20, subscribers gain the ability to create digital visuals effortlessly and benefit from the advanced capabilities of the GPT-4 language model, such as generating long-form content and image recognition.
OpenAI’s decision to integrate Canva is part of a broader strategy to enhance ChatGPT’s capabilities amid growing competition from other advanced models like Claude AI and Google's Bard. Previously, OpenAI offered a web-browsing feature through Microsoft Bing, but this was removed due to issues that arose from its ability to access paywalled content.
The Canva integration is a significant value addition, especially for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. By streamlining the digital design process, this new functionality could attract a broader user base, catering to individuals and businesses looking for efficient digital design solutions.

🦾 Arm's Financial Moves: A Barometer for AI's Economic Climate
Arm, known for its chip architectures foundational to AI technologies, has updated its SEC IPO filing with a share price range of $47 to $51, aiming for a valuation above $52 billion. The IPO aims to raise $4.87 billion, likely to fund future AI-related research and development. The company's technology is crucial in AI applications, being embedded in most smartphones and utilized by AI-relevant clients like Apple, Google, and Nvidia. Despite a revenue boost in 2022, Arm faces questions over its valuation, pertinent given its significant role in the AI ecosystem.
🚕 DeepRoute Takes Autonomous Driving to Germany: A New Hub for AI Innovation
Deeproute, a Shenzhen-based robotaxi startup with $350 million in funding, plans to open an operations center in Germany in 2024. Announced at the International Motor Show Germany, the Alibaba-backed company aims to launch its autonomous driving solution, Drive 3.0, in Germany next year. The solution works without HD maps and uses Nvidia's Drive Orin chip. With over 800,000 passenger rides mostly in China, Deeproute is pivoting from robotaxis to production-ready car road testing. The German center will focus on expanding its OEM customer base, which currently includes Seres and Geely and aims to connect with local automakers for smart driving mass production.
👾 Epic Games Supports AI-Generated Content
Epic Games has announced its support for games with AI-generated content on its digital storefront, contrasting with Valve's decision to ban such content on Steam. This divergence highlights a public split between the two gaming giants. While Valve cites potential copyright issues, especially with AI-generated art assets, Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, encourages embracing new technologies. This stance isn't new for Epic, as they previously supported blockchain-based games, which Valve had banned. The differing policies present developers with a choice on where to launch their innovative games.
